I have met so many wonderful people and the atmosphere is the perfect way to spend a Friday summer evening~ The market is filled with beautiful lush produce, delicious fragrant fruit and mouth watering smells! There is fresh fish, homemade biscotti, natural grains, gluten free baked goods, pasture fed beef, homemade ice cream, stone baked pizza...and much, much more! Mermaid Success!!!
I checked the soap after only two hours......good thing, it was set and ready to cut. It looks perfect and smells heavenly! In three weeks it should be cured and I can try it out~
Mermaid Sea Salt Bar!
I recently read about the loveliness of Sea Salt Bars. I bought 10 lbs of sea salt and 6 oz of Red Hawaiian Sea Salt. I created my recipe and took the plunge. I've always wanted to make a soap called Mermaid~ I colored it with Spirulina powder and added the red Hawaiian salt for the pink. The scent is ylang ylang; Bulgarian lavender and clementine essential oils............we'll see! It was a 'wham bam thank you ma'am!' kind of soap making experience.... The only step left is waiting for it to set up enough to cut, before it turns rock hard ;) Wish me luck~

ShamPooch Dog Soap
I finally made my first batch of ShamPooch! The neem oil has an interesting smell.......to say the least. In four weeks, I'll bathe Gunner and see how he likes it! I used eucalyptus, cedarwood, and citronella essential oil as well as raw goat's milk and oatmeal. It should be soothing to his skin and a repellent for the fleas and ticks.

Emu Baby Soap...Take Two!
My next attempt was planned carefully. The night before, I started my rice water by boiling 1 liter of water, adding 2 (level) Tblsps of jasmine rice and one cup of dried lavender blossoms. The lavender blossoms caught my fancy and I thought, why not. I boiled the mixture for 1 minute only. I then covered the pot and let it steep for 45 minutes. I strained it carefully and cooled it overnight in the fridge and all was well! The next evening after work I got the party started. The other problem I had encountered the first go around was the cornstarch. My solution to this was mixing the cornstarch with the emu oil....it worked perfectly! Everything else fell into place and the soap turned out fabulous!!! This time my happy soap dance was well deserved! My Emu Baby Soap is now curing and should be perfect for my grandson's first bath.
